I confess, I’ve never ever been invited to a Christmas Ball or black tie event. Still, life goes on and I’ve managed to get over this disappointment. Besides, while I’m still able to dance and eat there’s always a chance. I have, however, had plenty of practice at dressing for a Christmas ‘drinks’ do. By this I mean informal gatherings that take place in a private house, public house or if you’re lucky, a half decent venue. For such occasions, I feel the need to make a bit more effort than the usual jeans and a smart top but the full-on ball gown gathering dust in the wardrobe (sob) is still not needed. Having conducted a survey of my friends on this matter it seems I’m not the only one. I’ve attempted to address this sartorial dilemma with my ideal Christmas party outfit for the season.
I love these Burgundy cropped wide leg trousers, they will suit most body shapes and can be dressed up and down. I’ve teamed them here with the dusty pink crush velvet top as it’s flattering to wear a soft colour close to the face – you can cut back on the blusher then. The fabulous shoes add the sparkle here and the block heel means they’ll be more comfortable then most stilettos. This particular pair are expensive but there are cheaper ones available on the high street, unfortunately they didn’t have images I could use – you get the idea anyway. I’ve paired down the jewellery to a simple statement drop to make way for the beautiful ombre fur jacket. This is another versatile piece that would look great with jeans on another occasion. The bag was chosen for the same reason, it’s simple and elegant but will let the rest of the outfit do the talking.
