I don’t want to be the bearer of bad news but the one thing you can guarantee when it comes to the British weather is that it will change, a lot! As lovely as this heatwave is, we all know that in the space of a day we could be adjusting to torrential downpours.
That’s why packing for a holiday in the UK can be tricky. I’ve just returned from a few days on the South Coast and needed….hot weather outfits, beachwear, rainproof outfits, outfits for a pub lunch as well as items for chilly evenings, phew! That doesn’t include any functional clothing for running or walking because I ,ahem, didn’t need them.
With more of us than ever taking a staycation this year it is worth investing in a few items that you love to wear as these will lift your mood above any grey clouds that appear. They need to be comfortable, versatile and styles you’ll wear well beyond your holiday. In fact, they’ll prove far more useful over coming months than the bikini you usually purchase for trips aboard!
Take a look at my top five below:-
- Relaxed trousers

I’ve avoided jeans and joggers here as most of you will already be more than familiar with and perhaps tired of them. The relaxed fit and lightweight fabric of this style means they’ll be great to wear when the weather is hot but also not show any rain splashes if you’re caught in a shower.
& Other Stories trousers – £65
2. Jumpsuit

It’s hard not to look stylish in a jumpsuit. I love the puff sleeve and open neck of this style. You could dress this one up with metallics for a glamorous evening look or wear casually with trainers and chunky sandals. When the weather gets cold wear just pop a roll neck underneath and wear with boots.
& Other Stories – £95
3. Pretty cotton top

I’ve banged on about this style before as it looks beautiful, is easy to wear and very versatile. There are so many ways to wear it but my favourites would be to colour block with shorts on a hot day and any sort of jeans when it’s cold.
Zara – £25.99
4. Denim shorts

A staycation would not be complete without a pair of denim shorts now would it? Check out the fabulous Sea by Chloe ruffle pair at £300 if you’re looking for a designer option. This high waist style with a slightly longer leg is bang on trend for the season and great value at just £19.99.
Mango – £19.99
5. Midi skirt

I love this gorgeous two piece style. The tiered hem gives it a modern edge and the drawstring waist stops it looking too twee. Wear it with a vest and sandals on hot days and layer up with tights and a chunky knit in winter.
Meadows – £135
