The weather has finally given us the opportunity to pack away our jumpers and about time too! It’s probably the latest time in the year that I have ever packed away my winter clothes and I am so ready for the change that the new season brings. You may now be ready to delve back to your spring/summer outfits but is your wardrobe? In my experience, a look at what we were wearing last year can lead us to feel suitably underwhelmed. ‘I was wearing that?!’ a friend recently told me she exclaimed when taking on this task.
If this sounds familiar then changing your wardrobe over for the new season is the perfect time to audit what’s in there. Having a decluttered, organised wardrobe will take the stress out of getting dressed in the morning so you can use your valuable time and energy elsewhere. Here are five simple steps to help you achieve yours:-
Step 1
Pack away winter jumpers and anything with a heavy wool content, such as coats. Ensure that garments are clean before you do as moths thrive on particles of food, skin and hair that we leave behind (yuck!) but they hate the taste of cleaning fluid. Air tight vacuum bags are ideal for keeping the little horrors at bay.
Step 2
Group similar styles together, e.g. trousers, skirts etc so you can see exactly what’s in there. Also, if you have formal work wear, ensure you separate this from your casual wardrobe. It really helps reduce stress if you see the clothes you would wear on a particular day hung together.
Step 3
Give each style an honest appraisal – ask yourself, does it fit, flatter or is it out of date? Get rid of anything that is stained or still has the label on because it has never been worn.
Step 4
Step back and assess how the items left will work for your lifestyle. Do you have enough stylish outfits for work if the sun shines for instance? The right accessories and especially footwear, can make or break an outfit. Ensure you include these too when working through the clothes. You may find you have an abundance of one particular item so make a mental note not to purchase anything like this…for a while at least!
Step 5
Make a list of items you are need and stay focussed on this. Researching online before you go to the shops will reduce the amount of time you spend shopping and save you money too.
I should add that this does take a bit of time and effort but the results are so worth it. A organised wardrobe made up of styles you love, that match your lifestyle is guaranteed to reduce the stress when choosing what to wear.
