Happy New Year!
Believe it or not, I do actually practice what I preach and refresh my wardrobe every 6 months, chucking out what I don’t need in the process. The cupboard under the stairs, also known as the ‘cupboard of doom’ in our house, is another matter however. I did actually find a very rigid dead mouse in there once whilst looking for a Wellington boot!
If, like me, you find the idea of decluttering your house a daunting task I would urge you to read a book called ‘The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying’ by Marie Kondo. Marie is sometimes called the Declutter Queen and her theory is that if you keep only the items that ‘spark joy’ you’ll feel more focused, better able to make decisions and have increased motivation.
I have tried her technique on the cupboard of doom and I’m impressed with the results. I can’t pretend that the Hoover ‘sparked joy’ but for obvious reasons I decided to keep it. It did help me get rid of my ‘back-up’ trainers, pots of paint that I no longer need and other superfluous items. It has definitely increased my motivation to tackle the rest of the house too, despite this I’ve decided to leave the shed of doom for my husband to tidy!
If you would like some help to decide the clothes that spark joy in your wardrobe then why not book a Wardrobe Refresh?
