If you haven’t done so already then now is the perfect time to declutter and organise your wardrobe ready for sunnier times. Well actually, the first week of April would have been a perfect time too when this newsletter was meant to go out but it’s been a hectic month so apologies for running late.
As with most things in life, stripping out the superfluous clutter has so many benefits and your wardrobe is no exception. Having only the items you love, that flatter you and that work for your lifestyle brings benefits way beyond the clothes. If you haven’t time to go through your whole wardrobe (I would urge you to do this if you can) then eliminating these three things from your wardrobe will work wonders:-
1.Guilt
A £20 top we haven’t worn for two years is a lot more likely to make it to the charity shop then a £200 top we haven’t worn for twenty years. I get it, we feel bad about expensive purchases that we no longer wear. You have to accept that the money has gone and move on. You can always archive iconic designer pieces or resell them but don’t have them gathering dust in your wardrobe.
2. Expectation
What do I mean by expectation? These are the items we tell ourselves we ‘should’ be wearing. Like the dress that looked amazing online but really doesn’t suit us, the drab work outfits we wear to make us look professional but never great in and the cool shoes that we can’t walk in. Clothes need to fit your lifestyle and enhance your individual sense of style. Don’t wear things you feel you should wear, instead find a way to dress appropriately for the environment but still feel like ‘you’.
3. Pressure
Things change and that includes our figures. If you have been the same size for a while and you haven’t experienced an upheaval to cause it, e.g. having children, an injury etc, then accept it. Unless you are planning to drastically change your diet and exercise regime it is far better to dress for the size you are now than put pressure on yourself to change. Life is hard enough and the last thing we need is to feel pressured every time we open our wardrobes. Ditch anything that doesn’t fit today!
I should add that this does take a bit of time and effort but the results are worth it. An organised wardrobe made up of styles you love, that match your lifestyle is guaranteed to reduce that stress when choosing what to wear.
